Religious Trauma is kind of a dramatic term isn’t it? “Is that really what I have?” you may think. Even when you can name what you’ve experienced, it may be confusing to know what to do with it, our identity gets so wrapped up in belonging within faith spaces.
It may be that you’re outgrowing a place or a system. It may be harm, it may be trauma, but it’s definitely unsettling. It’s messy I know, I’ve lived it. And healing, rather than being a destination, has become a daily practice.
Freedom from religious trauma is found now in my freedom of thought and belief, freedom to make choices that are different to those once handed to me by a high-control system. Freedom to rebuild my sense of who I am.
This course explores our deep need for belonging and the disorientation we can feel when we start to doubt, question and outgrow beliefs and/or religious institutions.
It follows the familiar arc we see from all-in, often to all-out and the rage, pain, disorientation and self-doubt we can experience along the way. The devastation and shattering of identity we can feel is real and can lead to trauma.
Freedom from Religious Trauma provides tools for healing and rebuilding; for learning to trust ourselves and create new ways to be spiritual, or if that word is too loaded, grounded and present.
I asked on socials and in a survey, and people told me short videos, worksheets and downloads were the preferred format so that’s what I created. And, the number 1 topic people wanted to unpack was deconstruction, followed closely by ways to navigate shame and to rebuild community.
It’s coming in March 2026.
My story, The Sentimental Non-Believer is included with the modules.
